Things You Should Know About Synthetic Winch Ropes

Synthetic winch ropes are quickly becoming a popular alternative to steel cable because they are lighter, easier to handle, and easy to store. Each type of winch rope has its own advantages and disadvantages, but there is no conclusion as to which winch rope is better.
Remember the three things you should know about synthetic winch ropes and how to use them!
1.What is the service life of the synthetic winch rope?
A good rule of thumb is to assume that your synthetic rope will lose approximately 1.5-2% of its rated capacity per year. This means that a rope that has been used for ten (10) years will lose approximately 15-20% of its rated capacity, which is a reliable indicator that you should replace it.
2. Can synthetic rope fitted in any winch?
This will depend on the construction of the rope. We recommend that you consult your manufacturer or retailer to find out which type of winch your synthetic winch rope is compatible with.
It is important to know that the heat generated by the internal brake components on the "low mount" winch type may be sufficient to cause thermal damage to the fibers of the synthetic winch rope, causing it to lose strength. This is obviously undesirable, so it is not recommended to use synthetic winch rope on these types of winches.
3.How to attach synthetic rope to a winch?
The process may vary depending on the type of winch you own.
Disconnect the winch hook
Remove the fairlead
Disengage the winch motor
Remove the old winch line from the spool
Inspect the winch drum and fairlead for any required maintenance/repairs
Mount the new synthetic rope to the winch drum
Engage the winch motor
Spool the synthetic rope carefully on to the winch drum
Install the fairlead and winch hook
Install a bump stop
Install the winch hook
